The CODEX Foundation is pleased to announce issue no. 2, The CODEX Papers, an international review of contemporary book arts. Our editorial brief is to publish papers that promote a clear understanding of the enormously complex and historically rich field of the book arts, including:

The Charles Olson Society will sponsor a session at the American Literature Association Conference, to be held in Boston, May 23-26, 2019. We are interested in abstracts about any aspect of avant-garde poetics in mid-Century American verse, but in particular those that explore the collaborative and/or formal mechanics of projective verse as it developed in the diverse poetry communities of the 1950s and 1960s. While Olson’s essay “Projective Verse” has received ample treatment in studies concerning his own poetry and his direct contemporaries (Duncan/Creeley), other poets also built on projective verse in their own ways, fashioning distinctive styles that are related to projective verse but that transform it as well.

Journal of Contemporary Poetics is published by the Department of English, Faculty of Languages and Literature, International Islamic University Islamabad, Pakistan. This interdisciplinary journal welcomes articles and book reviews from various disciplines in Literature, Linguistics and other disciplines in Social Sciences and Humanities.

Working-Class Studies Beyond the Heartlands

With a growing awareness of class-based inequality, Brexit, and a new willingness to discuss working-class issues, we are pleased to announce that the next conference of the Working- Class Studies Association will be held in the UK in September 2019. In its fifteen-year history, this will be the first time the Working-Class Studies Association will hold its conference outside its heartland of the USA. This conference aims to build and consolidate work being carried out currently in the UK and Europe with the USA and elsewhere in the world.

This is a three-day international forum bringing together creative thinkers and doers to explore physically and figuratively our relationship with wood, trees and forest over the past hundred years, and imagining that evolving relationship over the next 100.

We are a group of enthusiastic academics who found each other in Chicago, USA. We want to offer researchers the possibility to reflect on “German” in all its facets and its place in the world. “Difference and Indifference in Irish Studies”

Both Jacques Lacan and Michel Foucault took the body as an object of critical inquiry but explored it in divergent ways. This collection of essays, under advance contract with McFarland and Company, will bring together scholars working from Lacanian and Foucaultian perspectives to interrogate the body. Collectively, the papers selected for this volume will aspire to answer, among others, the following questions: how do Lacan and Foucault approach the body, and what new forms of subjectivity emerge when we pay attention to the body? What are we allowed to do to or with our bodies, and what are we allowed to ask others to do to or with our bodies?

Minor(ity) Texts: Formalizing Resistance

As AI is becoming more pervasive in our lives, its impact on society is more significant, raising ethical concerns and challenges regarding issues such as value alignment, safety and security, data handling and bias, regulations, accountability, transparency, privacy, and workforce displacement. Only a multidisciplinary effort can find the best ways to address these concerns, including experts from disciplines such as ethics, philosophy, economics, sociology, psychology, law, history, and political science. In order to address these issues in a scientific context, AAAI and ACM have joined forces to start a new conference, the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society.

Many novelists in various national literatures touched upon the theme of an emancipated woman in the long nineteenth century. Imagination, as it is believed, has no borders and is dialogical in its nature.  Different voices of great emancipationist writers merged into one influential symphony liberating and awakening consciousness of slaves—males and females. If writers did not support directly or sympathized with the image of an emancipated woman, they did reflect on her place in society and her belonging. World literature allows us to take a closer look at the imagined and real women's lives, at their biographies and reminiscent writing.
