We are inviting essays for a proposed collection tentatively titled The Critic as Amateur, with strong interest from Oxford UP. The collection will focus on literary criticism as an activity suspended (productively) between expertise and amateurism. It will explore the idea of the critic of literature as an amateur rather than an expert, or conversely, it will consider the role of expertise in literary criticism. Individual contributions might touch on figures who have written on literature without credentials/certification, academic or otherwise, or institutional affiliations. They might also address academics who have successfully assumed "amateur" roles while writing or speaking in the public domain.

Proposals for individual presentations are invited for the Comics and Graphic Narratives panel at the 2016 meeting of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA). All papers dealing with comics and other graphic narratives will be considered. Papers utilizing media specific analysis, and papers with a strong connection to this year's theme of "Archives, Libraries, Properties" are highly encouraged. A visual component to the paper/presentation is also encouraged.
This years conference will be held in Pasadena, California and is sponsored by California State University, Los Angeles and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. The conference will be held between Friday, November 11, 2016 and Sunday, November 13, 2016.

“Encounters and Reimaginings: Medieval Scandinavia and the World”
ScandGrads, the graduate organization affiliated with Department of Scandinavian at the University of California, Berkeley, is proud to announce the interdisciplinary Graduate Student Symposium in Berkeley, California to be held March 3-4, 2017.
The upcoming issue of Parlour will concentrate on women as producers and consumers of texts with an emphasis on counter-intuitive feminist interpretations. We invite submissions that explore a wide range of approaches to the issue's theme and its attendant connotations of defiance, opposition, direct action, and rebellion.
We seek in particular articles that engage with queer feminism, antisocial feminism, Halberstam's notions of shadow feminism and the wild, and deeply intersectional feminism in order to read literary texts. Similarly, we encourage submissions that provide bold takes on works, authors, or characters that appear to be inimical to feminist inquiry—the more oblique the angle, the more surprising the application, the better.

Tragedy as a dramatic genre, theatrical practice, and mode of affect is defined by its longevity and rich tradition and has developed into an extraordinarily dynamic genre, firstly as a mode of narration, secondly as a phenomenon of transition and transformation between text and embodied performance that implies the crossing of medial boundaries, and thirdly in a transnational sense that implies the crossing of geographical borders.

Drinking from the River of Mnemosyne: Memoir, Truth, and Rhetoric
The modern concept of the memoir has a complex relationship with traditions of art, history, memory, rhetoric, and even ethics. Memoir is usually distinguished from autobiography by its inclusion of reflection—the examination of a life that borrows techniques from fiction to render its story interesting. Generically, it is often classified as ‘Creative Non-fiction,” a categorization that seems unwilling to confront the divide between fiction and non-fiction. That reluctance, however, may recall a more classical interpretation of truth, fiction, memory, and history.
