The Angelina College Language Arts and Education Division seeks 250-word proposals for 15-20 minute presentations for East Texas English Language & Literature: English & Literature in the College Classroom. The conference will be held October 6, 2018, at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas. We welcome submissions regarding all aspects of English language and literature, but preference will be given to proposals from English faculty and graduate students addressing effective, innovative post-secondary ELA education in the following areas:

V. F. Perkins (1936-2016) was a foundational figure in the history of British film education, a pioneering theorist of the medium, and among the most insightful and eloquent writers on the art of film. His historical significance for the fields of film criticism and film study is uncontested. However, while Perkins’ work – particularly the seminal Film as Film (1972) – still influences certain strands of scholarship, its contemporary relevance for critics, theorists, and students is presently underappreciated. This symposium is dedicated to revaluating Perkins’ critical methods and arguments by exploring their continued utility for those studying film, television, audiovisual media, and aesthetics today.

Writing Across the Curriculum

At its most basic, Writing Across the Curriculum is founded on the core belief summarized by Chris Anson in The WAC Casebook that “writing belongs in all courses in every discipline” (ix).  While guided by this central value, WAC programs must also be inherently flexible, individually designed to best meet the needs of their specific students, faculty, programs, and institutions. This diversity of possible approaches gives us the opportunity to share ideas, techniques, and experiences to explore the flexibility and adaptability of the larger WAC pedagogy.

The Writing Across the Curriculum section welcomes all submissions. Possible topics include but are not limited to:

Boundaries  can literally  be defined as  limits, limiting  factors,  borders  or barriers. The  term connotes the idea of restriction in both a physical  and ideological  sense. In social and cultural discourses, the idea of boundaries can be understood  as a metaphysical notion  to describe various ideas which are the foundations of all forms of discrimination and prejudice  based on issues such as patriarchy,  race, ethnicity,  class, sexuality, religious affiliation and other forms of classification. Examples  of such  conceptions  of boundaries  in  colonial,  postcolonial,  poststructuralist  and postmodern discourses include  the practices of stereotyping or othering.
