I am seeking manuscripts to complete an edited collection, _Toward an Ecosomatic Paradigm: Disability and the Environment in American Literature_, which is focused on the intersection between disability studies and literary ecology. The collection is currently under contract with Lexington Press, and I am looking to add a chapter or two that explores the collection's theme with a particular focus on twentieth-century American literature.

Emerson as Orator and Rhetor
This panel examines Emerson in his oratorical and rhetorical milieu. We welcome papers that consider the relationship between Emerson and rhetorical studies broadly considered, but we are especially interested in papers that highlight Emerson's career as lecturer, that consider his work in the context of rhetorical history, and that investigate his connections to oratorical culture. We welcome new readings of Emerson in light of rhetorical theory, as well as presentations that consider his work in the context of various intellectual traditions, including the study of eloquence, elocution, oratory, homiletics, religious rhetoric, the rhetorical tradition, discourse theory, and speech act theory.

Transnational Cityscapes

We invite essays for an upcoming collection that utilize transnational approaches to theorize city space. Accepted essays will offer literary and cultural analyses that encourage us to think of cities, in all of their complexity, as sites of transnational, transactional engagement. In taking this approach, we hope to demonstrate how cities, which are increasingly extending and challenging boundaries of place, provide sites for complicating our understandings of citizenship, nationality, and the nation.

English Studies and the Marketplace, 4th International Conference, 19- 20 February, 2016

The all- incorporating yet inequitable disposition of the global marketplace, facilitated by the neoliberal ideologies of profit maximization, have impacted substantially on all academic disciplines in increasingly conspicuous ways. Consequently, English studies has found itself precariously poised between the values it has traditionally transmitted to its graduates and the instrumental demands of the marketplace. There is friction between, on the one hand, the humanistic outlook that it has cultivated for generations now, and, on the other, the dictates of the job market and the relentless pressure exerted by forces of capitalism on the education sector.
