Heidegger / Media

Edited by: Justin M. Battin and German A. Duarte

Publisher: UTADEO University Press: Bogotá, COLOMBIA - (to be printed in both English and Spanish)

Call for Chapters
Even if not referenced directly, Heidegger is a philosopher whose work is pervasive in nearly all media related academic literatures. Whether these investigations center technological development, media practices, textual analysis, or overtly embark with a political dimension, Heidegger’s influence is omnipresent. As such, this edited volume seeks to not only reveal the significant role Heidegger subliminally plays in several strands of media studies, but also elucidate new paths to which one can take by employing an explicit Heideggerian lens.

Specifically this book will develop Heidegger’s concepts to explore our current technological context and, although this book will predominantly be marketed for a media studies audience, we feel that the discipline of media studies, as Morley (2009) describes, ought to return to the full range of its classical concerns. Therefore, we invite submissions that embrace a variety of subject matter.

Below is a short but not exhaustive list of Heideggerian concepts and corresponding interrelated subjects that we’d like to explore.
