On odd numbered years since the first October the Blackfriars Playhouse opened, scholars from around the world have gathered in Staunton, during the height of the Shenandoah Valley's famed Fall colors, to hear lectures, see plays, and learn about early modern theatre. In 2011, the American Shakespeare Center's Education and Research Department will once again host Shakespeareans, scholars and practitioners alike, to explore Shakespeare in the study and Shakespeare on the stage and to find ways that these two worlds – sometime in collision – can collaborate.

The AnaChronisT 15 (2011) invites research papers, interviews, and book reviews on literatures in English for its next issue, to be published in Winter 2011/2. Papers are to be sent to The AnaChronisT (Department of English Studies, Eötvös Loránd University, H–1088 Budapest, Rákóczi út 5.) by Tuesday, 26 April 2011.

The AnaChronisT http://anachronist.atw.hu/ welcomes submissions by graduate and doctoral students as well as academics. The requirements of application are as follows:

PGjournalMS is a new journal of Medieval Studies. It aims to provide a platform for postgraduate students of Medieval Studies to publish their work.
We are currently looking for postgraduate students who would like to join as contributors or editors.

Extremity and Excess: An Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Conference

This conference seeks to explore ideas of extremity and excess through the full range of disciplines in the arts, media and social sciences.

To deem something extreme or excessive is to place oneself in a position of implied moderation, and suggests an affiliation with other concepts such as temperance, discipline, familiarity, normality, balance, proportionality, sufficiency and rectitude. The extreme and the excessive, on the other hand, can be characterised as what is disproportionate, intemperate, unbalanced, uncontrolled, abnormal, undisciplined, radical and Other.

NABMSA's fifth conference will once again bring together scholars and lovers of British music from various academic fields and locales for three days of papers, discussions, and musical performances. The 2012 conference will take place from July 25-28 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The 21st Biennial Conference of the Southern African Society for Medieval and Renaissance Studies will be held at Mont Fleur, Stellenbosch, South Africa, from 30 August to 2 September 2012.

The theme of the conference is 'Mortality and Imagination: The Life of the Dead in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance'. In an effort to facilitate a wide-ranging, interdisciplinary conversation, we encourage scholars working in any discipline to submit abstracts addressing this theme. A selection of the papers presented at the conference will be published in a special issue of the Southern African Journal of Medieval and Renaissance Studies (accredited for South African research subsidy purposes).
