CALL FOR PAPER
Monographic section - FURIO JESI
Edited by Alessandra Elisa Visinoni, Riccardo Ferrari, Marco Tabacchini
Archaeologist, Germanist, philologist, literary critic, poet, translator and, above all, mythologist: Furio Jesi's intellectual profile escapes any attempt of classification. Despite his premature death, Jesi left a vast production, which stands out both for the radicalism of its thought and for its variety. We find references to literary documentation, and especially to mythology, since his early studies on archaeology - see, for instance, his 1958 article devoted to 'archetypal connections'.

As the world still reels from the financial crisis of 2007-8 it seems timely to reflect on the connections between money and value embedded in all our discourses about economy, language and literature. Marxists and neoliberals have classically theorized this as reflecting the mechanisms of capitalism and the market. More recently, however, the literary theorist Marc Shell has seen the invention of coinage as underlying the whole of Western philosophy, while the anthropologist David Graeber has proposed that all of the great religions and political ideologies are responses to the moral confusion of money.

In 1984, a Moroccan writer Fatema Mernissi launched the challenge of recuperating the local culture of intimacy, undermined by the colonial past. As an annex to her book, L'amour dans les pays musulmans, she published a "vocabulary of love" taken from a highly respected source: Rawdat al-Muhibbin (The Garden of Lovers) by a 14th c. scholar, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah. In 2011, collaborating with the editorial Marsam in Rabat, she presented this work once again as a splendid bilingual edition in French and Arabic, illustrated with calligraphy by Mohamed Idali, as well as with parallel series of paintings by Mohamed Bannour and Fatima Louardighi.
