You are invited to submit paper or panel proposals for the University of
Daytonâ€™s LitFest, to be held at the University of Dayton, April 13th and
14th, 2007. Organized by Department of English graduate students, the UD
LitFest has brought academic and creative submissions together since 2001.
We seek papers on the following:
Southwest Graduate English Symposium – 2007
The Gothic and the Sublime: Romanticism and Reason
As I was walking among the fires of Hell,
delighted with the enjoyments of Genius;
which to Angels look like torment and insanity.
I collected some of their Proverbs. – William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, 1790
How should we read these famous lines from Blake's masterpiece? What is the place of Reason in religion? Passion in morality? The Gothic in the Sublime – and vice versa?

"Edgar Allan Poe & The Juke-Box": Poe and Twentieth Century Poetry.
Poe and his poetic theories have continued to be a point of
engagement for twentieth-century poets, as witnessed by the recent
publication of the posthumous Elizabeth Bishop poem from which the
title of this panel is taken. This panel is calling for papers that
engage with any aspect of Poe's relation to poets and poetry of the
