PROFESSOR D.S. IZEVBAYE:A FESTSCHRIFT

Professor Daniel Sunday Izevbaye, an outstanding Nigerian scholar and
literary critic ,is retiring from the University of Ibadan, his base for
well over three decades. Izevbaye is one of the foremost and original
thinkers of the nature and character of contemporary African literature
written in English, an accomplished teacher whose numerous essays in
African, Caribbean and American literatures have both the depth and
clarity of a true scholar-critic; metaphorically, D.S. Izevbaye is a
major pathfinder of contemporary critical practice in Africa and a
shining light whose propagation of critical excellence at Ibadan is as
influential as it is enviable.

SOAS Literary Review (www.soas.ac.uk/soaslit/home) is an online journal of
postgraduate research. It seeks to provide an international forum for
research students working on the literatures of Africa, Asia, and the Middle
East. We welcome contributions on all aspects of postgraduate literary
research including articles, translations, fieldwork commentaries, and book
and media reviews. We hope to stimulate dialogue between research students
and scholars and forge links across institutions.

The Journal Revista Alicantina de Estudios Ingleses (RAEI) seeks
submissions for the forthcoming special issue on "New Literatures in
English". The aim of this collection of essays is to explore the
different labels that have been used within the fields of the so-called
Postcolonial Studies, Commonwealth Studies and, more recently, New
Literatures in English. We particularly welcome scholarly manuscripts
both on creative writing and theoretical debates dealing with the
following topics:

Essay Collection Geomodernisms: 'Race,' Modernism, Modernity
This collection seeks a select group of essays that interpret modernism as
one phenomenon of an uneven modernity, that is, a modernism emerging at
different times and places within such contradictory forces as technology,
diaspora, global capitalism, nationalism, and poly-lingualism. We are
especially seeking essays that probe the interlocking of cultural
aesthetics and geo-politics, taking into consideration the local and global
dimensions of a particular modernism.

Call for Contributions

We are currently planning to re-edit and republish Britishness and =
Cultural Studies: Continuity and Change in Narrating the Nation in =
England after a successful 'debut' in Poland (eds Knauer and Murray, =
Katowice: Slask, 2000). We are looking for more focus on British =
popular culture and media as well as Asian/Indian Culture in Britain, =
esp that what the anthology explores is a dialogic approach to both =
Britishness and to cultural studies.

Obsidian Is in Its 25th Anniversary Year

Founded in 1975 by Alvin Aubert at SUNY-Purchase,
Obsidian, the academic journal of black creative writing,
is now in its 25th anniversary year.

Each Editor changes the numbering of the journal.
The new editor is Afaa M. Weaver (b.Michael S. Weaver),
the poet and playwright. As the third Editor, after
Alvin Aubert and Jerry Barax, Obsidian is now:
Obsidian III/Literature in the African Diaspora. The
journal is based in Raleigh, North Carolina at
NC State University.
