An examination of cultural representations of breastfeeding that attends to diffuse discourses about infant feeding, ranging from medical and anthropological to socioeconomic and cultural, all the while utilizing feminist methodologies, can facilitate an interrogation of the feminist implications of breastfeeding advocacy, including essentializing discourses about women's bodies as the "natural" choice for infant feeding and the complex considerations women and families navigate in making decisions about infant feeding.

This panel will explore how institutions dedicated to the collection, preservation, and circulation of material knowledge manage sexuality. Sex materials create conflicting imperatives for librarians. As one collections curator at the New York Public Library recently told a reporter, "We needed to collect life as it was lived… It was always part of our mandate." Yet librarians at NYPL also had a mandate to protect the mass of pornographic magazines, pulp novels, and fliers they collected by carefully regulating access to them. Until recently, sex materials at NYPL labeled with three stars required supervision. That one example illustrates how sequestration generally determines who can read about sex and under what conditions.

The 1603 edition of Hamlet, the first surviving text of Shakespeare's most famous play, was, for most of the twentieth century, dismissed as a 'bad quarto', the most conspicuous inhabitant of the ghetto of 'memorial reconstruction'. This theory was widely proclaimed as a 'fact', which had been proven by the scientific methods of the New Bibliography. It was also widely accepted as a 'fact' that references to a play called 'Hamlet' in 1589, 1594, and 1596 referred to an earlier, lost tragedy, probably written by Thomas Kyd.

Shipping and Fandoms
Literature revolves around relationships. These may include not only relationships between authors and their readers, but also ones among readers themselves; and they may also include not only relationships between fictional characters within a work, but also potential relationships between characters that are not explicitly delineated within the text itself.

We invite chapter proposals for a volume on the phenomenon of "shipping"—whereby readers create fan fiction or other fan-generated material that brings fictional characters together into imagined relationships (sexual, amorous, or otherwise).
