We invite proposals for an anthology about drag in Appalachia. The collection aims to explore drag’s artistry, history, and cultural power. We welcome scholars, performers, and community storytellers whose work illuminates the region’s queer lineages, traditions, politics, creativity, and beyond. We especially invite pieces that examine drag as labor, community care, spiritual practice, historical reclamation, or engagement with Appalachia’s diverse cultural landscapes.

Theme: Echoes of the Digital Age
This issue explores how human connection, conflict, identity, and memory are being rewritten in a hyper-connected yet deeply isolated world. We are looking for sharp, short scripts that capture the friction between our physical lives and our digital existence.
Subthemes for Submission:
1. Phantom Vibrations: The psychological weight, anxiety, or obsession of waiting for a notification that never comes.
The Southeastern Renaissance Conference (SRC) invites submissions for presentation at our 83rd Annual Meeting, which will be hosted by the University of Tennessee Knoxville and its Marco Institute, to be held from Friday, October 23 to Saturday, October 24, 2026.

SPECIAL ISSUE ON VOCALITY IN THE AMERICAS
The editorial team at American Music invites submissions for a special issue exploring vocality in the Americas. Considering vocality as an ontological and epistemological process—a vocal way of knowing the world and of being in the world, constructed intersubjectively by both singers/speakers and listeners—we encourage contributions that engage with one or more of the following themes:

Eric Glover (Yale University) and Michelle Cowin Gibbs (CSULB) invite participants for a working group that takes stock of Zora Neale Hurston’s legacy and impact as a vital yet still underexamined repertoire in theatre, dance, and performance studies.
In conversation with the conference theme’s attention to retrospection and futurity, the group considers how Hurston’s work and that of her successors has been adapted, staged, studied, and taught, while asking what remains unfinished, underdeveloped, and newly possible.
Call For Papers: American Book Review Focus on “Drama and Resistance” I will be guest editing and contributing an introduction that situates a collection on “Drama and Resistance” within the postmodern/post-World War II era for the literary journal American Book Review. The topic is inclusive of contemporary American drama. For this collection, I’ve been asked to solicit 8-10 short essays and book reviews on this topic that are roughly 1,500 words each (or 6/7 pages double-spaced).
JLIC: CALL FOR ARTICLES FOR OPEN ISSUE 2028
1956 was a year of theatrical milestones. Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night was published posthumously while The Diary of Anne Frank won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. And, of course, the American Society for Theatre Research was founded. O’Neill’s meditation on troubled family dynamics and addiction would go on to win the Pulitzer in 1957. The previous year, the Pulitzer went to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, a Tennessee Williams play about alcoholism and (potentially) sublimated queer desire. In 1959, Lorraine Hansberry became the first Black woman to have a play produced on Broadway when A Raisin in the Sun premiered.
The American Humor Studies Association (AHSA) is putting together a pre-constituted panel for submission to the 2026 Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) conference, held November 12-15, 2026 at the Hyatt Regency in Seattle, Washington. PAMLA ‘s 2026 theme is “Our Ruling Classes: Culture, Power, Conflict.” Following this, AHSA is accepting a range of papers on “Comic Leadership.” We invite submissions that consider the role of comedy in politics. Often, comedy is used to “takedown” and “critique” those in power through satire and parody, but what can comedy offer for enacting new political paths forward?
