Panel Proposal: “Early Modern Voyeurism”
For presentation at GEMCS 2008, Philadelphia
"Appetite, Desire, and Gargantuan Pleasures"

Papers are invited for a panel on the representations of voyeurism in
text and image from 1450-1850. Submissions from all fields in the arts
and humanities are welcome. Please note that GEMCS panels take the form
of short (10-minute) papers, followed by an exchange of ideas among
panelists and audience.

Please send a 200-300-word abstract to Deborah Montuori by July 3, 2008,

After Effects: Performing the Ends of Memory
 
This issue of Performance Paradigm investigates the role of performance
in the lived experiences and discourses of trauma and memory. Alongside
trauma studies, Performance studies foregrounds models of witnessing,
embodiment and rehearsal to examine why and how trauma is represented and
what work these representations do in the world. For some, performance
provides a social space in which to act out as well as work through
personal trauma. For others, performance facilitates processes of

Biographical Spectacle: Theorizing Non-Literary Auto/Biography

As the influence of new media continues to expand, more and more people
obtain news and information through non-literary channels. This panel seeks
papers that explore non-literary types of auto/biography, including biopics
(film), biodramas (theatre), fan magazines, reality television, and
websites. How do these new sites of auto/biography function? How are they
distinct from or similar to traditional biography?

qualities that have made it a uniquely suited medium for exploring the subject of money, itself a
locus of anxieties concerning "hard" and "soft" value, presence and absence, the real and the
symbolic. The proposed panel welcomes papers that explore the subjects of money and economic

This panel seeks papers which explore the dynamic relationship between
language play and performance. Presentations might focus on French-
language plays, poetic drama, the role of the avant-garde and language
experiments, or theories of performativity. Other topics also welcomed.

Please submit 300-word abstracts, a brief biography, and contact
