Brave Words: Literature and Student Veterans (MLA Annual Convention in Boston, 3-6 January 2013)

I am seeking 5-7 roundtable participants for a discussion of the various ways veterans in the classroom enrich, challenge, and complicate engagement with classic literary texts, e.g. Heart of Darkness, The Aeneid, The Red Badge of Courage, Whitman's "Drum-Taps," etc. Topics may include text selection, discussion strategies, writing assignments, or managing interactions between veterans and non-veterans. 250-word overviews of proposed discussion topic, along with a 2-page CV, to Liam Corley by March 16, 2012: wccorley@csupomona.edu

The rise of the ecologically-oriented approaches to literature and the development of ecocriticism as a scholarly discipline in the 1970s did not remain very long the prerogative of the Anglo-American literature and scholarship. Other national literatures and literary studies have been rapidly developing their views on the connections between literature and ecology; these are oftem based on different premises and follow their own respective literary traditions.

MP: An Online Feminist Journal is seeking submissions for its fall issue. We seek ­scholarly articles, book reviews, and short essays that engage any aspect of feminism or feminist scholarship. ­Interdisciplinary and international submissions are highly encouraged. We recently have ­published ­essays about the body, the academy, religion, girls' studies, work, activism, and agency.

Maximum length for manuscripts is 30 double-spaced pages. Submissions may be in any accepted ­academic format such as MLA, APA, Legal Bluebook, or Chicago Style but must be consistent ­throughout and carefully edited. Submissions must not be published elsewhere already. Also include a ­current copy of your CV and a 50-word bio.
