CFP: egotistics: Open and Special Issues

egotistics is the online journal of EGO, the English Graduate Organization at
The University of Alabama. This peer-reviewed journal has been established to
offer graduate students and new professors the opportunity to publish their
critical writing on any topic regarding literature and critical theory. All
submissions will be reviewed by an editor and at least two assistant editors.
Rejected submissions will be returned with reader's suggestions. As always,
egotistics welcomes submissions for our open issues. Beginning spring 2003,
 we will publish one or two special topics issues per year.

Special Issue 1: Ecocriticism

Topics may include but are not limited to
* Environmental writing, nature writing, and other literary works through an
eco/environmental lens
* A close eco/environmental reading of a particular text (including film)
* An examination of the work of a particular author/director in terms of
eco/environmental representations
* Environmental issues within a historical, social, or cultural context
* The rhetoric of preservationists, deep ecologists, and environmental
agencies
* Discussions of wilderness or urban ecology
* Language and ecocriticism

Special Issue 2: Shakespeare and Adaptation

Topics may include but are not limited to
* Restoration, Nineteenth, or Twentieth Century adaptations
* Textual transmission through adaptation
* Textual cuts and the impact on meaning
* Adaptation as a vehicle for specific actors
* Foreign adaptations/translations
* Adaptations within a historical, social, or cultural context
* A close reading of a particular adaptation
* A concentration on a specific actor/director/writer/editor who has adapted
Shakespeare
* Film adaptations

Other special issues will follow, and we welcome submissions for upcoming
Special Issues on Transatlantic Influence, Meter and Poetic Form, and Dialect.
