Call for Essays: Human Rights & Latin American/U.S. Relations

PEACE REVIEW: A JOURNAL OF SOCIAL JUSTICE is an international journal
distributed in more than 50 nations. We seek essays on the above theme
for a special issue. We will explore the historical context of current
inter-American relations as we propose suggestions and alternatives
for the future. A wide variety of themes may be of interest. For
example, issues of political, security, and military affairs,
including the politics of war (drugs and terror) in an era of
democratization; security concerns in the post-9/11 environment;
immigration and migration; and human rights issues. Also, we're
interested in economic relations, including the politics and realities
of free trade and globalization; the FTAA and its comparison to the
European Union and Mercosur; remittances and technology transfers
across the Americas; migration and the integration of the Americas;
labor rights and the environment. Finally, we'll consider essays on
social and cultural issues, including migration and Latino/Latin
American communities in the Bay Area; media and the representation of
culture across borders; the status of international education;
questions of identity and citizenship; religion and inter-American
relations; indigenous peoples and modernization.

Please send essays on this theme by October 15, 2005. Essays should
run between 2500 and 3500 words, and should be jargon- and footnote-
free. See Submission Guidelines at
http://www.usfca.edu/peacereview/PRHome.html.
