(dis)junctions; Lost in Translation (April 7-8, 2006)

This call for papers is for a proposed panel to be held at "(dis)junctions:
Lost in Translation," the University of California Riverside's 13th Annual
Humanities Graduate Conference. It will take place April 7-8, 2005. For more

This call for papers is for a panel on Ang Lee's film "Brokeback Mountain,"
based on the short story by Annie Proulx. Some topics suggested, but not
limited to, include:

-The character Enis' violent acts when confronted by his emotional
investment with the character Jack
-The struggle to label the movie gay or not along with the trailers about
the movie that purposefully show the two male characters in loving moments
with their wives and violent moments with each other
-What is lost in translation from the short story to the big screen
