7th Annual Craft Critique Culture Conference
April 13-15th 2007
Sex in Public/Sex in Private
University of Iowa

CRAFT CRITIQUE CULTURE is an interdisciplinary conference focusing on the
intersections between critical and creative approaches to writing both
within and beyond the academy. This year's conference will examine the ways
that sex and gender define, delimit, distort, and dissolve the lines between
public and private spheres. Our keynote speakers include the University of
Chicago's George M. Pullman Professor of Literature, Lauren Berlant and the
University of Iowa's Assistant Professor of Cinema, Sasha Waters.

The conference encourages inquiry from a range of disciplines throughout the
humanities and social sciences and through various multicultural and
historical frameworks. We invite the submission of critical, theoretical,
and original creative work in a variety of media (including film, video,
music, writing, visual art, artists' books, etc.).

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
• Performing and constructing gender including crossing and passing in
public, gender on stage, etc.
• Masculinity/Femininity
• Sex and Media—Broadcasting sex (internet, TV, radio)
• Sex and subculture/counterculture
• Alt.sex: fanfiction, slash fic, fantasy and cybersex
• Sex and religion
