CFP: [18th] Call for Papers Ninth Annual English Graduate Conference SCSU
"Portraits of Women in Late-Eighteenth-Century Literature: The American
New Republic and Regency England."
Ninth Annual Graduate English Conference: Encountering the Text: Reading,
Teaching, Theorizing, Writing. Southern Connecticut State University, New
Haven, CT. April 19th, 2008. 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This panel seeks scholarly papers that examine portraits of women within
late-eighteenth-century American and English novels, stories, letters,
narratives, poems or plays. Such writers as Jane Austen, Fanny Burney,
Maria Edgeworth, Hannah Webster Foster, Judith Sargent Murray, Susanna
Rowson, Royall Tyler and Mercy Otis Warren are among a number of authors
who portray women in interesting ways. This panel seeks papers with
theoretical methodologies that explore the ways in which written texts
create effects of verisimilitude in the portraits of women.
Participants are asked to submit two pages. One page should be a cover
letter that includes a one-paragraph career biography. The second page
should include a concise abstract detailing the name of the panelist, the
title of the paper and a summary of the argument detailed in the paper.
Submissions may occur by land mail or by email kostkae1_at_southernct.edu.
Deadline for submissions is March 15th.
Conference Fee: $20.00. Make Checks payable to Department of English/SCSU.
