The World Picture conference is an annual meeting devoted to theory that
takes place in the intimate setting of Stillwater, Oklahoma. This year’s
meeting will gather theorists from around the world, and from across
disciplines, to address questions of the popular. We are accepting
proposals for papers that address this issue in any number of ways. Some
possible topics might include, but are not limited to:

Studies of Recusant writing, at least since the publication of Louis Martz’s pathbreaking study
The Poetry of Meditation in 1955, have consistently foregrounded the importance of Catholic
practices of affective devotion, introduced by Robert Southwell and his cohort, to literary
posterity. In particular, critics and historians have emphasized the influence of innovative
meditative strategies and poetic techniques evident in Jesuit writing (or, in a broader sense, in
Catholic) on Herbert, Donne, Crashaw, Vaughan, and others â€" to a canon of English poets
allegedly indebted to Counter-Reformation tools, styles, and practices. Recent work by Alison

New publisher Forty-Sixth Star Press invites essays on the theme of
Oklahoma films for an upcoming book. Essays should examine the film image
promoted by a film set in or about people from Oklahoma, one essay on any
one movie from Cimarron to Okie Noodling. The tone of the final essay
should be edgy and entertaining, and around 3000 words in length. E-mail
200-word abstract and contact information by September 15, 2008 to the
