Women Writing Trauma Seminar

40th Anniversary Convention, Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA)
Feb. 26-March 1, 2009
Hyatt Regency - Boston, Massachusetts

This session examines how historical trauma is made present in women's
writing as a way to signify women's experiences of modernity and
postmodernity. How might the historical traumas of the 20th and 21st
centuries provide a way of understanding women's experiences across
national and cultural borders? This seminar invites articles in process
that focus on how women authors represent trauma in all genres of world
literature. Please send abstracts to Jamie Carr, jcarr_at_niagara.edu, via
MS word e-mail attachments. Papers will be circulated before the
conference.

Deadline: September 15, 2008
Please include with your abstract:
Name and Affiliation
Email address
Postal address
Telephone number
A/V requirements (if any; $10 handling fee)

Seminar: participants complete and circulate their papers prior to the
convention. Instead of reading papers, participants give a brief
presentation of their work, with the session focused on structured
exchange between the participants.

The complete Call for Papers for the 2009 Convention will be posted in
June: www.nemla.org.

Interested participants may submit abstracts to more than one NeMLA
panel; however panelists can only present one paper. Convention
participants may present a paper at a panel or seminar and also present
at a creative session or participate in a roundtable.
