“International Aphra”

A panel for the annual conference of the American Society for Eighteenth-
Century Studies in Richmond, Virginia, March 26-29, 2009.

The Aphra Behn Society solicits papers on any aspect of Aphra Behn in an
international context. Topics could include Behn as a translator, travel
writer, or spy; Behn’s views of empire, international cooperation or
conflict; her contributions to movements in England and/or Europe such as
colonialism and exoticism; the representation of “other” people, places,
flora, fauna, food, and assorted things; comparison to non-English
authors in the treatment of similar topics; translations by Behn or of
her work; her reception abroad; teaching Behn in different countries; her
use of themes or conventions from non-English literary traditions; and
other topics unanticipated here. A wide variety of disciplines and
approaches welcome.
