THE 16TH METU BRITISH NOVELISTS SEMINAR
IRIS MURDOCH AND HER WORK
December 15-16, 2008
CULTURE& CONVENTION CENTER
METU
Department of Foreign Language Education at the Middle East Technical
University, Ankara, TURKEY, is convening a 2-day conference on Dublin-born
writer and philosopher Dame Jean Iris Murdoch (15 July 1919 â€" 8 February
1999) and her fiction, and her other critical and creative work. It is a
conference intended to provide an interdisciplinary forum for scholars and
participants who descend from different backgrounds and to encourage
dialogue between them. We encourage proposals on a wide variety of topics
related to Murdoch which might include Murdoch’s interrogations of gender
and sexuality, identity and difference, and conflicts between good and
evil from a variety of literary, historical, political, and cultural
perspectives. We also welcome new comparative theoretical approaches
offering provocative insights into Murdoch. As usual, we plan to publish
the papers presented at the Conference.
