The University of South Carolina’s Spring Literature Conference:
Literature Since 1800â€"Transitions, Translations, and Transmission
April 10-12, 2009

Recent academic studies of literature often emphasize the transition
between 19th century and 20th century texts, cultural events, and audiences
and between the Continent, Great Britain, and the Americas. The 2009 Spring
Literary Conference at the University of South Carolina seeks to
interrogate and explore the borders between 19th and 20th centuries and the
geographic borders of the western world over the past two centuries.

The framing of the advertising product, the figure in a photograph or
artwork or film or biography or political campaign, the space in an
architectural or interior design, the Other in regards to ethnicity,
nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability and/or
other subjects often serves to manipulate public perception.

For the 15th Annual Multicultural Conference at San Antonio College, we
invite papers and presentations that interpret the power of “framing”,
i.e. the use of framing in academia, the arts, business, economics,
international affairs, literature, politics, popular culture, and war.

our 2009 meeting. The “Chicana/Chicano Culture: Literature, Film, Theory” area tends to be both
multicultural and interdisciplinary, and panels and individual papers may explore any issues
relevant to Chicana and Chicano cultural studies.
