THE WORLD OF TONI MORRISON â€" A CELEBRATION OF HER LIFE AND WORKS

The Department of English at Howard University invites abstracts of
papers to be presented at its annual Heart’s Day celebration to be held
on the University’s main campus Friday, February 13, 2009. The Heart’s
Day Conference commemorates the work of African-American and Diasporic
writers and supports the endowment of the Sterling A. Brown Professorship.

Tolkien at the University of Vermont 2009, an academic conference
devoted to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, will be held at the UVM in
Burlington, Vermont on Saturday, April 11th and Sunday, April 12th. The
keynote address will be delivered by Professor Jane Chance of Rice
University.

The conference organizers seek 20-minute papers on any topic related to
Tolkien or his texts, but the following topic will be given priority
consideration: sex and/or gender in Middle-earth or related to Tolkien’s
life or works.

Hollywood has searched for “the story” in history, reorganizing the
chronology of events to sell history on the Big Screen . How fictive is
history on the Big Screen?
Proposals are being accepted for the Historical Fiction Area of the 2009
SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Hyatt Regency
downtown from Feb 25-28. All proposals and abstracts of 250 words or less
are welcome. Please include your Vita. First major deadline is Nov 15.

/Archives and Networks of Modernism/, an edited collection, develops
following a successful conference on Lawrence Durrell and the Archive in
2006. The book will expand beyond any single authorial focus to address
the plurality of Modernist and Late Modernist networks and archives in an
international perspective, in particular where each intersects or
interrupts the other.
