Seeking papers for the American Studies Association's Annual Convention
(November 5-8, 2009, Washington D.C.). Following the convention's
theme, "Practices of Citizenship, Sustainability and Belonging," the
panel is tenatively entitled "Illness and Disability; Citizenship and
Belonging." Some potential topics might include the relationships between
illness and/or disability and the following: citizenship rights;
veterans (esp. Gulf I and II); Katrina victims and survivors; migrant
laborers; immigration; medical migration; alternative sites and
structures of belonging. ASA encourages panels representing multiple
disciplines. Ideally, papers will intersect theories of illness and/or
disability with theories of race, ethnicity, class, nationality, gender,
and/or sexuality. Send 250 to 500 word abstact (strict maximum in
accordance with ASA guidelines) to Jennifer James @jcj_at_gwu.edu by January
21st. Please send as attachment. Earler submissions are appreciated;
