The Institute of African American Research has extended the deadline and has modified submission parameters for its Humanities Script Writing Competition. We have extended the deadline to September 1, 2010. We have reduced the submission requirements for scripts from 50 pages to 20 pages double-spaced and a 1 page synopsis. We will still offer a $1000
prize for the best script as judged by professionals in the Arts and Humanities. We are particularly interested in scripts that are cross-disciplinary, collaborative efforts that address aspects of the African American experience. The contest is open to anyone in any discipline. Established and aspiring scholars and writers with expertise in creative writing, literary criticism, philosophy, history, communications, performance studies, sociocultural anthropology, and other relevant disciplines are encouraged to apply. Submitted scripts will be considered for production. There are no limits on the historical time frame or genre of writing. Scripts should be submitted electronically to iaar@unc.edu and in hard-copy format to: IAAR-EKU, 150 SOUTH ROAD, CB#3393, STONE CENTER, SUITE 305, UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, CHAPEL HILL, NC 27599-3393. Acceptable submissions should reflect African American sensibilities, cultural norms, and perspectives. Contributions become the property of IAAR which will retain exclusive rights for subsequent distribution and use. Authors will retain authorship affiliation with their scripts, however. Faculty, staff, students, and community members are welcome to apply. Winners of this contest will be acknowledged during the fall semester of 2010. There are no limits to the number of entries that can be submitted.
