Proposals for twenty-minute presentations are invited on the topic of the Spanish conquest viewed through texts and images published during the long-eighteenth century in any language. Possible topics could address the publication history of the chronicles; a series of visual representations of a particular moment or participant in the conquest prepared since the first half of the sixteenth century; a comparison of history compendia from different periods or languages; a cartographic study about how the discoveries were mapped; and, a political study addressing the representation of national entities competing for territory in the New World. Interdisciplinary topics are particularly encouraged, as are proposals from scholars working in fields outside of languages and literatures.

Please prepare a 300-400 word outline of your paper commenting the specific texts, moments, or people you plan to address, as well as the methodology you will use, and email as an attachment along with a short biography to Dr. Lauren Beck lbeck@mta.ca by February 15th, 2011.
