DARWIN DAY 2012: FALSE MYTHS

CALL FOR ARTWORKS

The theory of evolution by natural selection formulated by Charles Darwin in the second half of XIX century represented one of the most important advancement in scientific knowledge, as a major paradigm shift in human Weltanschaung. Since its apparition, however, false myths and misinterpretations of the evolution theory have appeared, which suggested both an exploitation and a strong opposition of Darwin's ideas.

In preparation for the next Darwin Day 2012 titled "False Myths", who will be held in April, from 10 to 14 at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata", the organization committee seeks artworks that might point to a resonance or common cultural shift underlying Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution by natural selection. Artists need not necessarily be aware of evolutionary theory or be working with it as an explicit point of reference, instead we seek artworks that deal with the following themes (but not limited to them):

The interaction between organisms and their environment
The theme of change through evolution
Major changes in the history of science
False myths in scientific knowledge
The conflict between scientific and religious approach to the world
The animal dimension of mankind, as its relationship to other animals
Artworks about the beautiful in animal world
Artworks specifically designed for non-human beings
(Artworks that explicitly engage Darwin's evolutionary theory or its variants is are also welcome)
