Lights: The MESSA Quarterly, Vol. 1, Issue 3. Upcoming submission deadline: April 6th

Middle Eastern Studies Student Association (MESSA) for the Center of Middle Eastern Studies at The University of Chicago

We invite Master's students from all departments to submit work on a range of topics related to Middle Eastern studies. We encourage papers that explore the political, linguistic, and cultural significance of the Middle East that transcend limitations across formal/generic cultural, ideological boundaries, and/or within varying aesthetic approaches. Book reviews, critical, analytic, creative fiction, creative nonfiction, photographic, artistic, narrative, and poetic pieces related to Middle Eastern studies are welcome.

We are looking for submissions up to 4,000 words. Please submit an eletronic copy to by Friday, April 6th. Text documents must be MS Word .doc(x), and photography must be in PDF format. Include a cover sheet with your name, department, institution, paper title, email address, and phone number. Do not include your name on the manuscript. Submissions without a cover sheet, with names on the manuscript or with improper formatting will not be accepted.

The Executive Board will double-blind review each submission, and acceptances will be emailed during the week of April 9, 2012, along with further instructions. It is up to the authors to provide edited, publishable material. Once acceptances are disclosed, the Editorial Board will correct major (not minor) mistakes. Lights: The MESSA Quarterly Spring 2012 will be published online and in print (surcharge) on May 2012.
