Call for Papers: Film and Television in the 21st Century Conference (Fort Worth, Texas)

We invite panel and individual-paper proposals for the Film and Television in the 21st Century Conference, to be held at Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, Texas) November 2-3, 2012.

The members of the conference committee are seeking contributions that examine 21st-century film and television offerings in intellectually intriguing and diverse ways. Possible topics include (but are certainly not limited to):

popular film and television offerings, genres, and/or formats of the new millennium;
in-depth media analyses guided by various theoretical approaches (e.g., feminism, formalism, Marxism, postmodernism, psychoanalysis, semiotics, queer theory, etc.);
auteurist analyses pertaining to influential directors or producers;
particularly noteworthy cinematic and televisual representations;
trends in contemporary film and television;
emerging distribution strategies and/or challenges posed by media convergence;
informed predictions about the future of film and/or television.

Participants are encouraged to interpret the conference theme broadly and innovatively.

Individual paper presentations will be limited to 20 minutes in length. We also invite submissions of relevant media offerings (in DVD format) for screening and discussion at the conference.

We encourage submissions from scholars, educators, students, and filmmakers/videographers at all levels, and from disciplines including anthropology, communication, cultural studies, film studies, history, journalism, LGBT studies, media studies, popular culture, sociology, and television studies.

Given adequate participant interest and high-quality submissions, we are hoping to publish selected papers (with author's permission) in a special collection pertaining to the conference theme.

Persons submitting individual-paper proposals are asked to submit a one-page abstract with complete contact information (name, institutional affiliation, mail and e-mail addresses, contact telephone number) and a one-paragraph author biography. Panel proposals (featuring three paper-presentations total) should include panel title, brief description of panel theme, name of the panel chair, one-page abstracts of each paper in the panel, complete contact information for each presenter on the panel (name, institutional affiliation, mail and e-mail addresses, contact telephone number), and one-paragraph author biographies for each presenter on the panel.

Decisions regarding the status of submitted proposals will be made and communicated as quickly as possible following the submission deadline, and certainly no later than August 1, 2012.
