"Teaching and Learning" in the Journal of Popular Romance Studies ONGOING

The Journal of Popular Romance Studies (JPRS) is a peer-reviewed on-line journal presenting scholarship on representations of romantic love in popular media, now and in the past, from anywhere in the world.

The journal is now calling for submissions on the theory and practice of teaching and learning in popular romance studies for a regular section in the journal.

The "Teaching and Learning" section of JPRS welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions from all relevant disciplines, as well as interdisciplinary approaches. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:

Are there distinctively American attitudes toward objectivity and truth, judgment and action? Two of the most enduring cliches about US culture are, first, that its thought characteristically refuses universal grounds, and second, that it privileges material practicality over theoretical or metaphysical abstraction. Yet without universal grounds, how can we be convinced that anything is worth doing? Let's grant that it is; such a groundless granting may initially let us act with a sense of freedom and unlimited potential, but justifying or revising that action requires us to establish provisional grounds that can themselves be hedged, negotiated, interrogated to the paralyzing point of infinity.

Jeunesse: Young People, Texts, Cultures is an interdisciplinary, refereed academic journal whose mandate is to publish research on and to provide a forum for discussion about cultural productions for, by, and about young people. Our scope is international; while we have a special interest in Canada, we welcome submissions concerning all areas and cultures. The focus of the journal is on the cultural functions and representations of "the child." This can include children's and young adult literature and media; young people's material culture, including toys; digital culture and young people; historical and contemporary constructions, functions, and roles of "the child" and adolescents; and literature, art, and films by children and young adults.

The Vampire in Literature, Culture and Film area of the Popular Culture Association is seeking papers and roundtables for the Joint National Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association Conference to be held March 27-30, 2013, at the Wardman Park Marriott in Washington, D.C.

Papers which cover any aspect of Paranormal Romance are sought for presentation. Papers should be limited to a reading time of 15-20 minutes (3 person panels allow for 20 minute papers while 4 person panels allow for 15 minute papers; panels will be formed no later than January 2013 in order to provide panelists ample time to adjust their presentation time).
