The English Association of Pennsylvania State Universities (EAPSU) invites CFPs for our Oct. 3-4, 2014, conference at California University of Pennsylvania with the theme: "Come Together: Creativity in 21st Century English Studies."
We are seeking 250-300 word abstracts to be submitted to caleapsu14@gmail.com by Aug. 15, 2014.
Possible topics for individual presentations of panels include:
* What is creative about English Studies today? What will it be tomorrow?
* How will creativity inside the university differ from creativity outside the university?
* How is the creative married to the critical today? How will it be tomorrow?

South Atlantic Modern Languages Association (SAMLA) 2014

Drawing from Raymond Williams's assertion that "the idea of nature contains, though often unnoticed, an extraordinary amount of human history," we seek to explore how problems of human rights are manifest within environmental problems and proposed solutions. What do problems that arise at the intersection of sustainability and human rights elucidate about the inclusionary politics (including, but not limited to race, class, and gender) of these respective social movements? We welcome papers that consider the overlaps between these two movements and the politics involved in each. Possible topics of investigation include vulnerability studies, fair trade and labor movements, and resource wars.

From the late 1920s to the mid-1960s, the Western genre underwent a series of surprising transformations, experiencing a decline, a rebirth, and finally, its Golden Age. From highly successful traditional "oaters" and musical "horse operas," Westerns developed into complex, "revisionist" forms during the Cold War that included the noir Western, the cult Western, and the Spaghetti Western. At the same time, the Western also dominated the small screen, its popularity peaking in 1959 when 26 shows were aired on television.
