Call for Papers: Special Issue, The Comparatist
Topic: Figuring Race
General Editor: Zahi Zalloua (Whitman College)

We welcome contributions that examine the notion of race in comparative studies and literary theory. How do we imagine, represent, and construct race today? What role does race play in the Humanities? How do we talk about race in an ideologically color blind society? How does racial difference relate to other type of differences? Can we foreground race while avoiding both the pitfalls of identity politics and the depoliticization of race by neoliberalism? Topics of interest could include:

Black Lives Matter

Critical Race Theory

Solidarity Movements

Intersectionality

Cosmopolitanism

Neoliberalism

Violence

Settler Colonialism

Indigeneity

Orientalism

Islamophobia

Racism without Race

Postcolonial Theory

Interested contributors should submit a 1-page abstract by April 1, 2017 to zallouz@whitman.edu. Deadline for completed articles will be December 1, 2017.
