“I think our culture doesn't recognize passion because real passion has the power to disrupt boundaries.”  - bell hooks, Outlaw Culture

Organised by a group of Cultural Studies graduate students involved in modes of inquiry that intersect the humanities, social sciences, sciences, technology, activism, and the arts, UnDisciplined is a space for sharing scholarly, artistic, and/or activist work that theorizes or reveals forces that shape our life experiences. Cultural Studies draws on a range of methods and critical theories, empowering researchers to break down conventional divisions not only among academic disciplines but also between academia and activism, as well as between theoretical critique and cultural production. In this way, Cultural Studies brings together researchers focused on areas and fields, rather than disciplines and traditions. We invite you to submit presentations that transcend or crack disciplinary boundaries in theory and method, abstraction and enactment, so as to challenge, transform and illuminate the world around us. Successful applicants will be organized into thematic panels. Please submit your application to undisciplinedqueensu@gmail.com by January 31st, 2018.

Your application must be submitted as a single document* and include:

  • Biography (maximum 150 words)
  • Presentation Abstract with Title (maximum 200 words)
  • List of Key Words or Phrases (Maximum 5)

Please name your document “Last Name, First Name”. All abstracts submitted will be reviewed by a blind jury comprised of graduate students in Cultural Studies at Queen’s and an associated faculty member. Selections will be announced February 28th.

This year UnDisciplined will take place Friday, March 23rd to Saturday, March 24th, 2018. See our website https://undisciplinedonline.wordpress.com for more information about the conference.
