‘There is no name for this: we read this as a truism. What is unnameable here is not some ineffable being that cannot be approached by a name; like God for example. What is unnameable is the play that brings about the nominal effects, the relatively unitary or atomic structures we call names, or chains of substitutions for names. In these, for example, the nominal effect of “difference” is itself involved, carried off, and reinscribed, just as the false beginning or end of a game is still part of the game, a function of the system’

While scholars of Early America are often careful to avoid anachronism, we are living in a moment of profound contemporary connections with communication networks of the past. In the Age of Revolutions, the creation and dissemination of information cultivated and complicated shifts in political ideology, commercial practices, and imperial infrastructure. Questions of access in these networks, of who can create information, who can circulate and commodify it, and on what terms, directly intersects with ongoing explorations of textual transformation in digital studies.

International Conference on Interrogating Disability Studies: Literature, Culture, Performance

Though the roots of neglect and discrimination against persons with disabilities can be historically traced, the voices of this critical segment of society have largely remained unproblemitized in academic discourses. The traditional medical and welfare-based approaches have often overlooked the significant impact of disability on the socio-cultural and psychological lives of persons with disabilities both as individuals and groups. Further, till recently, most academic discussions relating to disability paradigms have tended to revolve around legal provisions, support systems etc.
