DEADLINE EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 31, 2017

2018 DSGS Conference Call for Papers:

Writing in the South Round Table

March 22-24, 2018

The University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Lafayette, LA

The 2018 Deep South in the Global South Conference is pleased to announce the first annual
Writing in the South Round Table, which will be held at this year’s conference!

We are interested in facilitating a discussion between writers and scholars at this year’s conference
investigating the theme of writing in the South. As “writing” can function as action or object, we are
interested in including writers discussing and reading from their own work, as well as scholars
investigating that work and the unique content of writing as impacted or defined by the southern
notion of place.

If you are interested in participating in this year’s round table, please submit an abstract addressing
your take on Writing in the South and your interest in entering this dialogue with other writers and
scholars. If you are submitting as a writer, please also address the content of your work. We look
forward to having a diverse group of writers sharing original work and beginning a creative and
scholarly dialogue that we hope will continue in years to come.

Please note that participants in traditional DSGS conference panels may submit to join the Round
Table, and are encouraged to do so, but must submit a separate Round Table abstract.

Deadline for Round Table Abstract Submissions is: December 31, 2017.
Submit all proposals to DSGSConference@gmail.com, and include “Writing in the South Round
Table” in your subject line. Proposals should include a 250-word abstract and a 50-word bio.
