We believe in intersectional work and centering people of color with disabilities in leadership roles within the disability movement. As we grow as a coalition, CNLD hopes to continue to center marginalized populations in the leadership work we do and showcase. The Disabled Latinx Movement: Cultivating Leadership, Creating Agents of Change Conference seeks to bring together leaders and activists in the Disabled/Deaf/Blind and/or Latinx movements as well as identify and build the capacity of our future leadership.
CNLD & the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities invite proposal submissions from individuals, academics, practitioners, activists, advocates, community members, self-advocates and more (with preference given to those who identify as Disabled Latinx). You can submit proposals to present individually, via teleconferencing and/or in groups (of no more than four individuals). Through submissions we hope to uplift the experiences of individuals who identify as Disabled, Deaf, and/or Blind and Latinx (Chicanx, Hispanic, Latinx, Mexican, Mestiza, etc.), and those representing other marginalized identities such as undocumented, LGBTQIA, elder, Afro-Latinx, and neurodiverse.
Topics for submission may include, but are not limited to:
Explaining your leadership role in the work you do in the Disabled Latinx community.
Holding a leadership workshop for future Disabled Latinx leaders.
Your personal experience
Selecting a topic that you are an expert in that would benefit our community
Providing a creative arts/writing/drama workshop
The National Coalition for Latinxs with Disabilities imagines a society in which the human rights of Latinxs with disabilities are upheld and all their intersecting identities are embraced.
We work in solidarity to affirm, celebrate, and collectively uplift Latinxs with disabilities through community building, advocacy, protection of rights, resources, and education.
