Thoreau's Cape Cod - ALA 2018
American Literature Association
May 24-27, 2018, in San Francisco, California.
Perhaps Thoreau's bleakest book, Cape Cod, with its explorations of death, nationhood, and the wrecking economy, is ripe for renewed critical engagement. Following up a recent panel on this difficult and posthumously published work at Thoreau From Across the Pond, an international symposium in Lyon, France, we invite papers that consider any aspect of Cape Cod, from its attention to questions of perspective to its meditations on Americanness and its engagements with capitalism and disaster. Please send queries or one-page abstracts (for an 18-minute presentation) by January 15, 2018 to: email@example.com.
