CFP for ASAP/10 Seminar: Global South Urbanism and Aesthetics
Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present 10th Annual Conference, October 17-20, 2018, New OrleansConference website: http://asap10.tulane.edu/ CFP: SEMINAR ON GLOBAL SOUTH URBANISM AND AESTHETICS
This interdisciplinary seminar invites artists, scholars and urban practitioners to offer position papers/presentations at the intersection of Global South urbanism and aesthetics. In studying how contemporary city bodies, spaces, objects, affects, and events take shape and transform, and how urban proximities, networks, and collectivities, are articulated in the Global South, this seminar will focus on sharing methodology, re-theorizations, and materialist and new materialist aesthetic analyses not only across Asia, Latin America and Africa, but also in those "Souths" in the Global North. We encourage papers and artworks that conceptualize postcolonial and decolonial urbanisms/urban aesthetics, and that engage critical race studies and queer and feminist studies in their approach to art.
Possible thematic threads for consideration include:
Urban sensoriums in the Global South
Comparative Urbanisms and Art
Participatory Urbanisms and Art
Urban publics and Counter-publics
Arts of the Global City
Queer of Color Critique and Global South Urbanisms
