CALL FOR PAPERS: EXTENDED DEADLINE EDITION

Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) Conference

Friday, November 9, 2018 to Sunday, November 11, 2018, Western Washington University, Bellingham, Washington

Conference theme: “Acting, Roles, and Stages”

Session: Post-Family Studies
Presiding Officer: Craig Svonkin, Metropolitan State University of Denver
Proposal Due Date: August 1st, see our CFP page for open sessions (https://www.pamla.org/2018/topic-areas)

Panel description:

For the Post-Family Studies session, I am interested in papers that rethink the family in new ways, or explore new familial, para-familial, or post-familial structures, possibly by denaturalizing, deconstructing, de-idealizing, or reconceiving the family. Proposals that explore new, transformational, or transnormative “families,” or post-familial or post-kinship family-like relations in literature, film, or culture are welcome. Proposals might explore the effects of ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, region, ideology, history, or nation on the family and its depiction; the formation or deconstruction of familial ideologies; family mythologizing; shifting depictions of the family; or reconceptualizing the family in a post-Victorian, post-Freudian, post-Modern, post-Colonial, post-heteronormative, or anti-bourgeois manner.

Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. We look forward to your submission.

Note: The PAMLA Conference, held over the November 9-11, 2018 weekend at lovely Western Washington University in idyllic Bellingham, Washington, is a broad conference for scholars of a wide variety of literary, cultural, or media topics. You may submit to more than one session (if you do so, please let the presiding officers know you are doing so) but may only deliver one paper at the conference itself. Please do not submit proposals to more than two or three sessions, and do not submit the same proposal to multiple sessions. For more information about the conference, check our homepage here: http://pamla.org/2018
