Possible title: Techno-Flesh: Body Politics and Future Making

In general terms, this themed issue, to be edited by Krizia Puig, M.A. (Phd Student, UC Santa Cruz) and Sav Schlauderaff, M.A. (Phd Student, University of Arizona), explores the erasure of non-normative bodies within conceptual and material spaces of creative, scientific, and technological future making. It focuses on offering a critical understanding of the ways in which  notions of fitness, thinness, healthiness, able-bodied/able-mindedness, happiness, and longevity intersect with each other when analyzing imagined, emerging, and forthcoming aesthetic, technological, and scientific understandings of the body. It also aims to highlight practices of resistance against established industrial complexes that reinforce whiteness, thinness, being able-bodied/minded, cisgender, and being heterosexual as what is considered desirable and beautiful. We seek papers that center intersectional analysis and lived experiences (i.e. examining the intersections of fatness, race, ethnicity, class, disability, sexuality, gender, gender expression, age, geographic location, nationality, religion, carceral status etc.) with innovative methodological and theoretical approaches to research and writing.

If you are interested in contributing to this issue, please email Krizia Puig (kpuig@ucsc.edu) and Sav Schlauderaff (savschlauderaff@gmail.com) with the following information depending on your kind of submission on a single PDF document. Please include full name, affiliation, contact information, and attach your C.V.  Deadline: July 31, 2018.
