South Atlantic Modern Language Association Conference Undergraduate Research Forum
South Atlantic Modern Association (SAMLA) Conference
Friday November 2 to Sunday November 4, 2018 in Sheraton Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama.
This year’s South Atlantic Modern Language Association conference in Birmingham, AL will focus on Fighters from the Margins: Socio-Political Activists and Their Allies, pointing to Dr Martin Luther King’s statement that “Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better.” This is a proposed panel for undergraduates which will focus on how the minority creatively fought for those in the margins in the form of children’s literature. The panel seeks applicants who will analyze children’s literature with either single author analysis or a comparison of children’s authors and how the marginalized are defended through children’s literature.
Submit a brief bio and an abstract for proposed papers by August 15th to Rebecca Johnston (firstname.lastname@example.org). The undergraduate research panelists accepted into the conference will be able to present their essays in the panel and will be given feedback on their content and presentation skills by a senior SAMLA member. Participants will also be eligible for the Undergraduate Essay Prize which includes a $100 honorarium, complimentary registration in the SAMLA 91 conference in ATLANTA, and a publication of the winning paper in SAMLA News.
