*UPDATED* "You Are Here" 2019: ID Conference on Place, Space, & Embodiment
“YOU ARE HERE”:
4TH ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
ON PLACE, SPACE, AND EMBODIMENT
OMAHA, NE, USA
CALL FOR PAPERS
*UPDATED DEADLINE: JANUARY 15, 2019*
Keynote: Dr. Cormac O’Brien is an Assistant Professor of Anglo-Irish Drama at University College Dublin, where he lectures in Anglo-Irish Drama, Irish Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Medical Humanities. He was awarded the ’18-’19 Fulbright Irish Scholar Award to pursue research on representations of HIV/AIDS in contemporary drama.
Keynote: Dr. Nicole Piemonte is the Assistant Dean for Medical Education at Creighton University’s School of Medicine in Phoenix, AZ, where she teaches Medical Humanities to medical students and residents. Her research questions how embodied experiences of suffering shape one’s sense of self.
At the root of every critical discussion are questions of space, place, and location. Place holds a particular importance in understanding society and the social relations within it. Interrogating the importance of this “ever-shifting social geometry of power and signification” (Massey 1994) that is the ‘spatial,’ “You Are Here” is a conference dedicated to exploring the implications of space and place on the people within them.
“You Are Here” welcomes papers, proposed panels, roundtables, poster sessions, and other session formats from students and scholars at all stages of their careers and in various disciplines. These include but are certainly not limited to: literature, rhetorical criticism, pedagogical studies, medical humanities, sociology, anthropology, theology, history, law, political science, and fine arts.
We encourage all papers on space, place, and /or embodiment, but particularly welcome proposals concerning:
