CALL FOR PAPERS

Environment and environmental issues have held a prominent place within dramatic text and performance across theatre history.  In contemporary performance, environment(al) issues have driven production experimentation, dramaturgy, and design, while the ideology and content of performances continue to look at the world around us.  On 20 April 2019, the 2019 TDGSO Conference will explore ideas of the “environment(al)” in or surrounding the theatre, drama, and/or performance.  Papers, workshops, and performance projects are welcome to apply.

Seeking contributor to write on ASSAULT and/or YOUTH VIOLENCE for Violence in American Society: An Encyclopedia of Trends, Problems, and Perspectives.

deadline for submissions:

I am looking to assign two entries for Violence in American Society: An Encyclopedia of Trends, Problems, and Perspectives. Unfortunately, I had these entries fall through last minute and now I’m scrabbling to find a writer or writers able to take on the subject of "Assault" and Youth Violence." The entries would each look at historical, contemporary, and mediated depictions in the United States. Each would be 5,000 - 8,000 words, however 25% of that can be primary documents (court rulings, historical documents, laws, etc.) While it is a substantial task, which I would require no later than May, 2019, I can see someone with expertise in the subject(s) able to do it.

KOME, an Europe-based international Open Access journal is currently accepting submissions for its 2019 and 2020 issues. We are  a theory and pure research-oriented journal of communication studies and related fields. Basically, we consider results from the field of Communication, Media, Journalism and Theatre & Film studies that includes both strict theoretical contribution and methodological rigour (one could think that this basically means social sciences perspectives, but we also consider papers closer to the humanities side of communication and media studies).

Modernist difficulty: its evolving value and meaning

updated:
Thursday, February 28, 2019 - 2:17pm
MSA Toronto (October 2019)
deadline for submissions:
Wednesday, March 6, 2019

Difficulty is a key quality associated with modernist works and a key value associated with modernist theory. T. S. Eliot’s “The Metaphysical Poets” valorizes difficulty’s intellectual and mimetic value, claiming that, because civilization is various and complex, poetry should force or dislocate language into meaning. D. H. Lawrence’s “Morality and the Novel” values emotional difficulty as necessary to the journey toward newness, both in life (“A new relation … will always hurt. So life will always hurt”) and art (“to read a really new novel will always hurt”). Echoing Freud, Lawrence says there will always be “resistance” to newness.
