The International Vladimir Nabokov Society invites paper proposals for a special session panel on the theme "Nabokov and the Risks of Being Human" for the MLA 2020 Meeting in Seattle next January. (This panel is being organized in connection with the 2020 MLA Presidential Theme, "Being Human": https://www.mla.org/Convention/MLA-2020/2020-Presidential-Theme.) The topic may be construed broadly, but preference will be given to papers addressing the challenges, flaws, and pitfalls of human nature as presented in Nabokov’s works, including considerations of interpersonal ethics, human consciousness, the body, humanism, time and memory, relations to the non-human, death, love, despair, or related themes (e.g., Nabokov and philosophy, Nabokov and human rights, Nabokov's metaphysics, etc.).  Please send 300-word proposals to Christopher A. Link, SUNY New Paltz (linkc@newpaltz.edu) by March 22, 2019.
