Call For Papers: Stephen Graham Jones: Painting the Shelves Red.
Western Literature Association 54th Annual Conference, YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park, CO, September 18-21, 2019.
Since the publication of The Fast Red Road in 2000, Stephen Graham Jones has proven to be one of the most prolific and versatile writers, publishing in genres including literary fiction, mysteries, detective fiction, new westerns, and science fiction, to horror, fantasy, comics, graphic novels, and screenplays. In a piece published in the Fictions of Stephen Graham Jones he celebrates experimentation in form and genre, while urging Native writers to resist easy categorization and expectation, stating, "write where you're not supposed to write, and then move on, do it on the next shelf over too. And the next, on down the line. Leave the whole bookcase red." Thus, for this panel we are seeking proposals that address the ways in which Jones has gone about this task in his ever-expanding body of fiction. While we welcome proposals addressing any of Jones' works singularly or comparatively, we especially encourage critical focus on his more recent explorations in form and genre fiction.
