Afrofuturisms: Re-imagining Contemporary Blackness in History, Art, Technology, and Culture

Contributors are invited to submit chapters for a book project on Afrofuturism, an emerging and increasingly relevant area in Africana/Africanist fields. The scholarly essays will analyze, discuss, or examine Afrofuturism. The purpose of the book project is to gather in one volume current research that both outlines the academic field and conceptualizes it as a growing site of interdisciplinary exploration. We encourage essays that assess and re-assess AfroFuturism from a variety of perspectives, including notably the polemical, historical, esthetic, academic, and cultural. Contributors are also encouraged to share in their essays the analytical and comparative dimensions of Afrofuturism. The deadline for abstracts is: Dec. 31, 2019. Complete manuscripts are due by: May 31, 2020.

Scholars of history, literary studies, gender and sexuality studies, postcoloniality, environmental studies, anthropology, film and media studies, art, pop-culture, and linguistics will be particularly interested. Up and coming scholars are encouraged to submit essays.
