The Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies, a peer-reviewed academic journal edited by graduate students at the University of Iowa and dedicated to publishing cultural studies scholarship from both established and emerging scholars, is currently soliciting book reviews for our upcoming issue: Speaking of Violence. The Deadline for Reviews is Sunday, December 15th, 2019.

We are particularly interested in reviews of the following texts:

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood (Nan A. Talese, 2019)

How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi (One World, 2019)

Freedom Fighter: My War Against ISIS on the Frontlines of Syria by Joanna Palani (Atlantic Books, 2019)

Trauma by Lucy Bond, Stef Craps (Routledge, 2019)

Gaming Masculinity: Trolls, Fake Geeks, and the Gendered Battle for Online Culture by Megan Condis (University of Iowa Press, 2018)

Political Life in the Wake of the Plantation: Sovereignty, Witnessing, Repair by Deborah A. Thomas (Duke University Press, 2019)

Cold Warriors: Writers Who Waged the Literary Cold War by Duncan White (Custom House, 2019)

Proposed reviews are not limited to these texts, but we do ask that reviews be of material published within the last two years. Reviews should be between 1,000-2,000 words and follow the style guidelines, found here:
