The Poetics, Politics, and Praxis of Transnational Feminisms

Minneapolis, Minnesota November 12-15, 2020

The NWSA Asexuality Studies Interest Group welcomes presentation proposals for the 2020 NWSA annual conference. We are interested in presentations that address a range of topics related to the study of asexuality. Following the 2020 conference theme, “The Poetics, Politics, and Praxis of Transnational Feminisms,” we especially welcome presentations that consider asexuality in relation to transnational flows, histories, communities, and movements. How can asexuality engage in anti-racist, anti-imperialist, and decolonial feminist praxis and epistemologies that cross national boundaries? What are the transnational politics of asexuality? How might asexuality studies scholars and activists employ transnational feminist analyses to representations of asexuality in art, literature, music, culture, and digital spaces? What are transnational asexual perspectives and how do they de-center imperial epistemologies, ontologies, and practices?

Potential topics for presentations on asexuality might include: • literary representation of asexuality in the global context • Black sexuality studies • Indigenous asexual politics • diaspora, asexuality, and/or desexualization • asexual online transnational flows and alliance building • the role of nation state; immigration narratives • asexual poetics, asexual pleasures • global, national, and institutional practices and their intersections with asexuality • asexual materialisms, economies • transnational sexual education and imperial narratives • transnational asexual organizing • homonationalism and asexual identity politics • asexuality as part of queer community in transnational perspective • asexual human and non-human relations • reproductive futurity and biopolitics • queerness, neurodiversity, disability, crip justice, and asexuality • representations of transnational asexuality in literature, film, and media

These asexuality-related themes are orientated towards the NWSA 2020 CFP which can be found here: https://www.nwsa.org/cfp. We also welcome submissions on other topics related to asexuality studies and with clear ties to the conference theme.

If you are interested in being a part of the 2020 Asexuality Studies Interest Group organized panels at NWSA, please send the information by filling out this form by Feb 5th, 2020: https://forms.gle/mz5pqrFakGphbVWp6

If you have any questions, please email <nwsa.asexuality@gmail.com>.

Please note: Once we have received and reviewed the submissions, we will work on assigning presentations to specific panels. We will try to accommodate as many qualified presentations as possible, but spaces are limited to 3-4 presenters per panel. Each panel is 75 minutes long and each presentation can take 15-20 minutes depending on the number of presenters. NWSA will make the final decision about which panels are accepted. Presenters accepted into the conference program must become members of NWSA in addition to registering for the conference.
