Call for Papers, Panels, and PresentationsPage 23 LitConJuly 3-5, 2020

500-word abstracts for papers, panels, creative presentations, roundtables, or any other appropriate event expanding and/or expounding on comics and pop culture are being accepted for a scholarly conference at

DENVER POP CULTURE CON at the Colorado Convention Center           DENVER, CO                                                                      July 3-5, 2020

Since its inception nine years ago, Denver Pop Culture Con’s Page 23 LitCon features presenters from numerous interdisciplinary focus areas, including comics and graphic novels, gaming, television, film, anime, wrestling, toy studies, and so much more. We love giving a platform to people who live in any pop culture realm (or at the intersections of multiple!).

This year, Denver Pop Culture Con lands on July 4th weekend, and we see the holiday as an opportunity to reflect on America past, present, and future through the lens of pop culture.  As a result, we’re asking a related, big question that we hope some of our presentations will respond to.  The question, should you choose to answer it, is: Who captains America?  Any take on that prompt is welcome!

In addition to the above, we are also interested in:

  • Panels centering on pop culture pedagogy, aimed at current teachers of all levels
  • Papers addressing diversity of race, class, gender, neurology, sexuality, and ability in pop culture, and how those issues might be impacted by our current sociopolitical climate
  • Papers or panels discussing the works of guests attending Denver Pop Culture Con
  • Proposals for pop culture-related play readings, creative writing workshops, slam poetry events, fiction readings, epic rap battles, and other fare beyond the traditional literary conference milieu

Multimedia equipment (projectors, speakers, etc.) will be available to all presenters, and we encourage and prefer visually engaging presentations. Page 23 LitCon has no registration fee and acceptance includes a free three-day pass to Denver Pop Culture Con!  Please email abstracts and brief personal statements to page23@popcultureclassroom.org by March 15, 2020
